Binance Registers with India’s FIU, Aims to Restart Operationsment

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency alternate, has taken vital steps towards resuming its operations in India by registering with the nation’s Monetary Intelligence Unit, as confirmed by a senior FIU official. The registration comes after Binance was suspended from working in India this previous December on account of non-compliance with native rules, amid a broader crackdown by the monetary watchdog on offshore crypto exchanges working with out correct registration.

To function legally, digital digital asset service suppliers, reminiscent of cryptocurrency exchanges, are required to register with the FIU and cling to the nation’s anti-money laundering rules. Though Binance has now registered, it should nonetheless resolve pending penalties for its prior non-compliance earlier than it might probably restart operations, with the precise fines but to be finalized, in line with Vivek Aggarwal, director of the FIU.

Along with Binance, the FIU issued present trigger notices to 9 different offshore cryptocurrency exchanges in December 2023 for related compliance failures. Furthermore, the FIU had requested the Ministry of Electronics and Info Know-how to dam on-line entry to those platforms.
