An upcoming exhibition on the Los Angeles department of Hauser & Wirth is all somewhat meta. L.A. Story (12 September-4 January 2025) is a bunch present impressed by the 1991 romantic comedy wherein Steve Martin’s character searches for that means in “a metropolis famously clichéd as a cultural vacuum”, in keeping with a gallery assertion. Martin, identified for movies corresponding to Parenthood and Father of the Bride, will co-curate this love story to the Californian metropolis, drawing on the town of angels’ wealthy artist base, that includes works by the likes of Mark Bradford, Ed Ruscha and Vija Celmins. Martin says in an announcement: “I’m thrilled that L.A. Story is the main focus of so many fantastic artists and [will be held at] an exquisite gallery, Hauser & Wirth, which is simply throughout the road from the Troubadour, the place I first stepped foot on Santa Monica Blvd, which started my L.A. sojourn.” We’re trying ahead to Steve’s loving tackle La La Land.
